
Stephen commenced as Principal of Northern Beaches Christian School (NBCS) in 1999. Under his leadership the school has experienced significant growth to become a thriving learning community of more than 1,300 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. In 2005, Stephen founded the Sydney Centre for Innovation in Learning (SCIL) with a vision to embed innovation into everyday school practice. Stephen has been in school-based education for more almost four decades, with teaching experience across primary and secondary. Stephen studied to be a Secondary English teacher, trained in Primary teaching method, and has completed a Master of Letters in Australian Literature. He is currently in the last stages of his PhD studies – looking at the challenge of change within schools and school systems. Among many commitments, Stephen is a member of the Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership’s standing committee for expert school leadership. He was the NSW Secondary Principal of the Year in 2011. He is a Fellow of the UK Royal Society for the Arts. In his capacity as founder of SCIL, the Sydney Centre for Innovation in Learning, Stephen has been an adviser to education projects in the United Kingdom, Spain, New Zealand, Rwanda, Uganda, Canada and the US. | ![]() Mr. Stephen Harris Founding Director SCIL – Sydney Centre for Innovation in Learning |
